The physics and mechanics of granular media have undergone significant development over the past several decades, with a particularly dynamic French community. Etienne Guyon has been a crucial driving force in the development and animation of this community, inspiring it with his boundless energy. This article aims to briefly outline Etienne’s involvement and initiatives, while situating them within the broader evolution of ideas in this relatively young science of granular media.
