Abstract
At the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland, a process for manufacturing normal-conducting, tuning-free travelling-wave (TW) accelerating structures has been developed over the past decade through a collaboration between the institute and an industrial partner, VDL-ETG. Relying on ultra-precision machining and brazing, this method has been successfully applied to TW accelerating structures in the S-, C- and X-band regimes, achieving accelerating gradients of 40, 52, and 110 MV/m, respectively. This paper reviews the high-power performance of the devices produced using this technique and explores potential limitations in their high-gradient operation.
