Abstract
In this study, we used fNIRS to examine functional connectivity during the Raven’s progressive matrices performance. The goal was to determine whether increased reasoning demands are associated with condition-dependent changes in large-scale cortical interactions. Based on the P-FIT framework and previous fMRI-based studies, we hypothesized that an increase in the task difficulty would be associated with network reorganization, particularly in the frontal and parietal regions. The results showed increased connectivity within and between the frontal, parietal, and occipital regions increased parieto-temporal connectivity, decreased fronto-temporal connectivity, and unchanged within-temporal connectivity. These results aligned with previous fMRI studies, but also offered new insight.
