3ω hot wire method for micro-heat transfer measurements: From anemometry to scanning thermal microscopy (SThM)
Thermophysics Lab., UTAP, Univ. Reims, BP. 1039, 51687 Reims Cedex 2, France
The state-of-the-art concerning measurements of bulk and localized thermophysical properties with the modulated hot wire and 3ω detection is presented in the introduction. We developed a general theory of ac hot wire method formulated in terms of dimensionless parameters, describing distributed or localized heat exchange mechanisms. Simple analytical solutions are found for special cases of experimental relevance, which are illustrated by novel applications in ac anemometry, thermophysical characterization of nanofluids and SThM investigation of various micro-structured systems.
