The Rare-Isotope-Beam facility at FAIR
GSI Darmstadt, Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ionenforschung, Germany
Published online: 8 December 2007
FAIR, a next-generation facility for research with antiprotons and ions, will provide the European and international science community with a technically novel and in many respects unique accelerator system for a multidisciplinary scientific program. Intense rare-isotope beams, an integral part of the FAIR project, and advanced experimental concepts promise a new quality in investigations of nuclei far away from stability. A brief description of FAIR with emphasis on radioactive beams is presented.
