Foldy–Wouthyusen transformation and exact description of spin dynamics in strong external fields

A new method of the Foldy–Wouthyusen (FW) transformation for relativistic particles of arbitrary spin in strong external fields has been developed. Its use is not restricted by any definite commutation relations. The final FW Hamiltonian can be expanded into a power series in the Planck constant which defines the order of magnitude of quantum corrections. The transition to the semiclassical approximation has been performed. Exact quantum and semiclassical equations of spin motion have been deduced for spin-1/2 particles interacting with a strong electromagnetic field.
