String theory and M-theory are still imperfect due to the lack of definitive non-perturbative formulation. The matrix model is one of proposed formulations of the theories, which should provide a solution to this problem. In this review article, we outline general ideas of matrix-model description of M-theory and recent development of numerical studies with some details for some particular matrix models.
