A detecting system consisting of low-pressure multi-wire proportional chambers has been developed for fission fragments registration in a high alpha-particle background environment. Using the system, fission fragments generated by the 252Cf and 239Pu source were measured. Very good alpha particle and fission-fragment discrimination was achieved, and it was shown that the quality of measurements does not change in the presence of a large flux of alpha particles. It is proposed to use detection systems to detect certain actinides in a mixture by the presence of fission fragments.
