Abstract
The brain’s role in post-extraction stress regulation is one of integrating the intense trigeminal nociceptive signals and engaging descending autonomic reflexes. Acute dental pain activates a broad pain matrix (S1/S2, insula, ACC, etc.) that overlaps with stress and cardiovascular control centers, leading to sympathetic activation. Interventions that reduce pain or anxiety appear to modulate this brain–heart axis, as reflected in more favorable HRV and hemodynamic profiles.
